Kehl
Kehl is a city in the west of Baden-Württemberg on the Rhine opposite Strasbourg, and about the same distance from Karlsruhe (75 kilometers) in the north and Freiburg im Breisgau (80 kilometers) in the south. After the district town of Offenburg and behind Lahr / Black Forest, it is the third largest town in the Ortenau district and forms a middle center in the area of the regional center of Offenburg. Since January 1, 1971, Kehl has been a major district town. As a former bridgehead to the areas on the right bank of the Rhine in France, Kehl was often the scene of acts of war and was destroyed several times.
